In February 2008 Jacqueline Besant contacted Kirsty Wood and offered to fundraise in aid of Global Rescue Mission-Sierra Leone. Since then she has successfully raised over £3200 through coffee mornings, car boot sales, a race night and Halloween Discos. In April 2008, Jacqueline organised her first fundraiser, a busy Coffee Morning! With Fairtrade coffee and tea, homebakes galore and many raffle prizes and stalls, the event was a great success. Not only did it raise over £800 but also brought awareness to the community about the situation in Sierra Leone and the purpose of the charities work.
Four carboot sales throughout the year have raised almost £200.
Thanks to the gererosity of Mark and Alison Ridgeway, owners of Fusion nightclub in Kirkwall, exactly £1100 was raised through 2 Halloween Balls in October. The first event was organised in conjunction with kids from the Kirkwall Grammar School. A fancy dress ball for under 18's held in Fusion with music by DJ Slinky was a fun filled night and raised £540. The following night Mark and Alison kindly donated half the takings from their over 18's Halloween Fright Night!
