The Swawou Layout Community Primary School for Girls
The Swawou Layout Community Primary School for Girls is a child friendly school offering free primary education to out of school girls in Kenema town, eastern Sierra Leone.

In 2009/10 the school will open its doors to 30 girls ranging in age from 5 to 13 years. Deservingly handpicked by the local school team, these girls come from extremely poor and underprivileged backgrounds. Most have never had the opportunity to go to school; instead, they have spent their childhoods engaged in household chores and income generating activities. It is these girls who are most at risk of becoming the silent victims of gendered rights violations including early marriage and childbirth, gender based violence, female circumcision and HIV/AIDS.

The Swawou Layout Community Primary School for Girls is specially designed to assist vulnerable girls from the Swawou Layout community. Focusing on the ‘whole development’ of each girl (emotional, physical and mental), the school aims to provide the necessary support to enable its pupils to develop into intelligent, ambitious, confident and healthy girls and young woman.

In 2009/10 the overhead costs are being covered by Law Business Research Ltd.
