Following the success of last years promoting non-violent youth participation in politics programme, British High Commission has chosen to work in partnership with GRM-SL for a second year.  We will be working to build on the capacity of the Kenema Youth Alliance and aim to have them fully engaged in this years local council elections.

APRIL: GRM-SL AND CHILD AT VENTURE PARTNERSHIP
In an attempt to empower the homeless youth of Lumley, Freetown, GRM-SL has began exploring new business initiatives.  An existing car wash business has been identified as our first project.  A potentially lucrative business, GRM-SL is seeking support to cement the ground, install hoses and support the boys through business skills training.
GRM-SL has managed to secure a partnership with
Child at Venture, who are willing to provide a percentage of the funds, as well as offering training to the boys and GRM-SL staff

PROGRAMME LAUNCHES

During March and April GRM-SL launched a variety of programmes in both Kenema and Freetown.

The amputee agricultural programme is underway.  The land has been cleared, yams planted and it will soon be ready for weeding.

The outreach street children programme (in partnership with
STAR4AFRICA) began in March and 20 street boys are now enjoying football training, informal education, feeding and counselling twice a week.

6 homeless youths in Freetown have been selected for our rehabilitation programme.  They now all have homes and are in vocational training.

Airyhall Primary school, Aberdeen's amazing fundraising efforts has given S.L.C primary, Kenema a new toilet and new benches/chairs.  The construction of the toilet and benches/chairs will be complete by June.
