FEEDING THE MINDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE
GRM-SL began a critical literacy programme with Feed the Minds in June 2008.  The Kenema programme aims to sensitise participants in the reading of social, political and literacy texts within the wider context of their construction.  From June until the year ending, GRM-SL will run workshops on topics such as culture and literature, media and newspapers, stories and points-of-views and NGO materials and advertising

PROMOTING YOUNG PEOPLES PARTICIPATION IN POLITICS
GRM-SL secured its second consecutive year of funds from the British High Commission in June to run a project on promoting participation in local governance.  The project aimed at better involving young people and women in local decision making and consisted of a series of training workshops, stakeholders meetings and sensitization campaigns in Kenema district.

AIRYHALL SCHOOLS AMAZING CONTRIBUTION!
Airyhall school, Aberdeen, Scotland recently raised money for their partner school in Sierra Leone and here is the end product! S.L.C now have two new latrine toilets and 55 benches and chairs for the children of the Kenema primary school!  And after a visit to the Aberdeen school in June 2008, Founding GRM-SL Coordinator Kirsty Wood was told by children and staff that they were already fundraising to help the school further!  The last week of term saw each class participate in sponsored events for Sierra Leone.  One p1 boy even did his own fundraiser by selling some of his old toys in his garden.  He raised over £60!

Many thanks again to everyone at Airyhall!
