Schools in Scotland are continuing to raise fantastic amounts of money for their partner schools in Kenema, Sierra Leone.  Airyhall Primary School, Aberdeen recently raised almost £1000 for their school partner S.L.C whilst St Gerardine Primary School, Moray have raised £550 for National Islamic Primary School.  The remote school of Shapinsay on the outer island of Shapinsay, Orkney Isles have also raised £340 for Karonkor Primary School.  This money will go a long way in improving learning conditions at their partner schools in Sierra Leone.

A music quiz with a Karaoke twist was held in the Masonic Club in July 2009, organised and hosted by WLAF Trustee Steve Smith.  Orkney Businesses were invited to take part in this fun night which they hope will become a yearly fundraiser.  There was also a fantastic raffle with prizes once again being donated by local businesses.  The winners of the trophy on the night were the Radio Orkney Team.  A total of £510 was raised with a further donation of £67.45 being donated by the Masonic Club  making a grand total of £577.45.

The Orkney Rotary Club held a Race Night in Kirkwall Town Hall in May 2009 with all proceeds donated to We Love Africa Foundation.  A hugely successful night saw a grand total of £1300 being raised. A big thank you to all the local business who donated such great prizes and to everyone on the night who gave so generously.  Some of the Rotary Club members also took part in the Hoy Half Marathon where a further £600 was raised bringing the rotary donation to a fantastic £1900.  Pictured left is Orkney fundraiser Jacqueline Besant receiving the cheque from the club.

Jacqueline Besant, Isla Holloway and Jack McIntosh organised a cake sale at Holm, Orkney over the Easter weekend.  A total of £252.60 was raised.

Jacqueline also helped organise a coffee morning in the Kirkwall town hall supporting the big bang fair-trade weekend in May 2009 with a total of £50 raised.

Marion Scott of the Hope, Orkney organised a raffle and jumble sale at the Hope School in March 2009.  A total of £820.53 was raised.

A bingo night with a raffle and supper was also held in April with £342.07 raised.
