Previously named Global Rescue Mission Sierra Leone (GRM-SL), The Children's Education Trust Sierra Leone was founded in late 2006 and registered as a national non-governmental organisation of Sierra Leone in early 2007. Founded by young Briton Kirsty Wood and Sierra Leonean Mohamed Jaward, the organisation's original mission was to empower disadvantaged young people, children and women within the Lumley constituency of Western Freetown and Kenema District, eastern Sierra Leone. The charity now focuses exclusively on helping disadvantaged children gain a quality education in Kenema District.
